Who we are!

Ash Latif is a Textile Designer/Maker, and a current fourth-year student at Duncan of Jordanstone College of Art and Design in Dundee, Scotland.

“I’m a fourth-year Knitted Textile student at Duncan of Jordanstone College of Art & Design (DJCAD) in Dundee, with a deep-rooted passion for materiality, process, and the narrative potential of textiles. Working primarily with knit, I’m drawn to its structural versatility and the way it allows me to build surface and form simultaneously. My practice is a continuous exploration of texture, color, and technique; often blending traditional craft with contemporary innovation.

As a designer, I’m especially interested in how textiles can evoke emotion, memory, and connection. I approach my work with a curiosity about how materials interact with the body and space, and I aim to create textiles that feel as meaningful as they are functional. Sustainability is a key consideration in my practice, I’m committed to thoughtful material sourcing, slow production methods, and the creation of long-lasting, considered design.

Throughout my time at DJCAD, I’ve developed a strong foundation in both hand and machine knitting, and I enjoy pushing the boundaries of what knit can be. Whether it’s through unconventional yarn choices, sculptural forms, or experimental swatching, I see each project as an opportunity to question and expand the possibilities of the medium.

Looking ahead, I’m excited to continue refining my voice as a designer, collaborating across disciplines, and contributing to a more mindful, inclusive, and imaginative textile landscape.”
